SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS


    At  St  Brendan's  we  recognise  that  each  child  is  an  individual  and  has  the  right  to  a  broad,  balanced  and
    differentiated  curriculum.    In  line  with  the  Mission  Statement  we  are  preparing  our  children  to  face  the
    opportunities,  responsibilities  and  experiences  which  they  will  encounter.    We  aim  to  ensure  that  all  children,
    irrespective of ability, have full access to a differentiated and balanced curriculum, in order to develop their full
    potential.

    We endeavour to
      identify and assess children with Special Educational Needs as soon as possible

      plan  for  and  provide  appropriate  support  for  identified  children,  liaising  with  parents  and  outside  agencies
       where applicable
      monitor, record and evaluate the individual child's progress on a continuous basis, using our own recording
       system

      ensure a sympathetic and understanding attitude towards SEND children within school, avoiding anything which
       identifies a child with a disability.  Our Mission Statement should be seen in practice and evidenced by our
       caring approach

    INCLUSION

    In accordance with the Special Educational Needs Code of Practice we are fully committed to the inclusion of all our
    children in all school activities.  Our Mission Statement should be seen in practice and evidenced by our  caring
    approach and acceptance of all pupils.  All necessary work has been undertaken to provide open access to all areas
    of the school.

    EQUALITY


    At  St  Brendan’s  RC  Primary School  we  are  committed to  ensuring  equality  of  education  and opportunity for  all
    pupils, staff, parents and carers receiving services from the school, irrespective of race, gender, disability, faith or
    religion or socioeconomic background. We aim to develop a culture of inclusion and diversity in which all those
    connected to the school feel proud of their identity and able to participate fully in school life.


    SPORTING AIM
    [
    At  St  Brendan's  we  aim  to  provide  a  rich  and  varied-programme  of  sport.    This  will  include  competitive  and
    non-competitive  games which  will  ensure the  children  develop  appropriate  attitudes  and  skills.  Whilst  games  is
    taught as part of the PE National Curriculum, at St Brendan’s we offer children the opportunity to take part in a
    variety of age appropriate extra-curricular activities.  These are open to children regardless of gender or ability.
