P. 53
Remember Him before the silver cord is broken and the gold-
en bowl is crushed, the pitcher by the well is shattered and the
wheel at the cistern is crushed; 7 then the dust will return to
the earth as it was, and the spirit will return to God who gave
it. 8 “Vanity of vanities,†says the Preacher, “all is vanity!â€
Psalm 90: 9-12: “9 For all our days have declined in Your
fury; We have finished our years like a sigh. 10 As for the
days of our life, they contain seventy years, Or if due to
strength, eighty years, Yet their pride is but labour and
sorrow; For soon it is gone and we fly away. 11 Who under-
stands the power of Your anger And Your fury, according to
the fear that is due You? 12 So teach us to number our days,
That we may present to You a heart of wisdom.
Whether we like it or not, man or woman, young or old, rich or
poor, sick or healthy, royal or slave will one day have to fulfil our
appointment with death. No one is an exception. Consider the
number of people mentioned in history, kings and queens and
noble men and women who are no more. They all died. Abraham
died, Isaac died, Moses died, David died, you can name them all.
Death is no respecter of person. You are a person so death does
not respect you. If Christ doesn’t come in your lifetime, when the
time comes for you to die, you will face it. Note it. You see people
die every day. It will one day be your turn. Even Methuselah died
at the age of nine hundred and sixty-nine years (969). Enoch and
Elijah were taken up without dying.
