Building the
future
RETAINING EMPLOYEES
The clever title we gave to our theme for 2019 is a nod to the fact
that we aren’t just building cabinets in our businesses – we are
building the future.
The need for qualified workers continues to be a struggle – not
only in the woodworking industry but in manufacturing as a whole.
EMPLOYEES Throughout this year, we’ve offered insights into the first stages of
the employment process: finding, hiring, and training. For our final
issue of 2019, we address the biggest question: How do you retain
the high-quality employees you’ve hired?
At an industry event earlier this year, Danielle Clark, the Director
of Talent Development for Adobe, spoke on the topic “Getting
the Most from Your People.” One key take-away was the fact that
Adobe’s management performs quarterly “check-ins” with their
team members instead of reviews or evaluations. These casual
meetings consist of three focal points: expectations, feedback, and
development. The great thing about this program is that Adobe isn’t
afraid to share it: www.adobe.com/check-in/toolkit. You can
review how they make this work and then adapt it for your own use.
What follows is advice from Inova COO Guy Bucey on how to keep
existing employees by creating a work environment that employees
will never want to leave. If you’re interested in hearing more from
Guy, join us in March for our national conference, where he will be
our keynote speaker.
