8.1  What Is an Interjection?
           Interjections are sudden, interrupting words or phrases that
           are also known as exclamations. Common interjections include
           wow, well, hey, bravo, and oh.

             An interjection expresses strong emotion or surprise;
                  it functions independently within a sentence.

                          Wow!
                       Look at that!               Free
                                                Hot Dogs

                            Example: Wow! Look at that!

                                    Interjection

           In the example above, we see that the interjection Wow! stands
           apart from the rest of the sentence and adds an element of
           surprise.

                         Interjections are often signaled
                            by an exclamation mark.

                                Example: Bravo! You won the race!

                                        Interjection

                 Interjections can also be signaled by a comma.

                      Example: Oh, they are late.
