3.3.4 Researchers’ Intensity and Full-Time Equivalence
Figure 3.11 reflected R&D researchers’ intensity and full-time equivalence (FTE) from 2000 to
2012. FTE was the amount of time spent by the researchers on R&D activities conducted by the
agencies/institutes or companies. FTE of research personnel had steadily increased from 2000
to 2012, excluding the year 2006 where FTE decreased from 17,886.59 in 2005 to 13,415.90.
The FTE for 2012 was reported at 62,806.81, which was a significant increase from 57,404.89 in
the previous year. The FTE of researchers was the highest (52,052.25) followed by technicians
(4,733.61) and support staffs (6,020.95).
