                            On(' of the most satist)'ing aspects of my professional career over the past three decades
                            has been l11y association with the NJROTC program.  I remain convinced that this pro-
                            grilm represents one of the finest  and  most  worthwhile endeavors  that  exist to  serve
                            American youth.
                               :Many thanks arc due the variolls NJilOTC staff and curriculum advisory members,
                            NJROTC  instructors,  and  various subject  matter experts who  made  numerous  sug-
                            gestions for the first edition of this book and  for needed changes and  updates in  this
                            second edition.
                               The N)ROTC unit at Annapolis High School in Annapolis, Maryland, graciously sup-
                            plied many of the photos of cadets engaged in variolls activities that appear in the leader-
                            ship section of this hook. Except where otherwise identified, the other photographs and
                            line art used  in  the book came from the photo archives of the U.S. Naval Institute, and
                            from  the photo files of the Chief of Naval Information.
