CIVIL ENGINEERING &
INFRASTRUCTURE WORKS
Well-lit walking offering serenity at night.
• Today, the project has boosted tourism in Melaka as well as improved the environment. Sg. Melaka is progressively becoming
a clean and living river again while a storm water-pumping scheme is helping alleviate local flooding. The aesthetics of the
riverfront too have improved and recreational activities are being held along the river place throughout the year.
• The team’s attention to reusing “chunks of history” is evident throughout: original materials from colonial times were salvaged
and re-used as part of the embankment walls, while several ramshackle shop houses were rebuilt as close as possible to the
original style of architecture. Many historical icons associated with the city’s history too have been incorporated back into the
overall design.
• For our involvement in the project, we received a testimonial and letter of appreciation from the Melaka State Government.
The Sg. Melaka project also received several awards and accolades including the Malaysian Institute of Architects Category
8 (Special Category) Award and the Malaysia Independence Award (Star Category) in 2009; the FIABCI Award (National
Contribution - Special Category Award) in 2011; and Silver Award of Merit (Category 1 - Infrastructure) from the Association of
Engineering Consultants Malaysia in 2013.
