CUSTOM, IMMIGRATION AND QUARANTINE (“CIQ”) COMPLEX,
MELAKA
Project objective : To design and construct a Custom, Immigration and Quarantine Complex
together with a passenger jetty
Location : At the river mouth of the Malacca River (downstream)
Client/Owner : Public Works Department Malaysia
(JKR - Cawangan Pangkalan Udara & Maritim)
Project duration : 23 months (2010-2012)
Contract value : RM73.0 million
Project background
• The CIQ Complex, which stands grandly along Sg. Melaka, combines a state-of-the-art passenger
ferry terminal and 15th century Malaccan architecture. In order to meet UNESCO’s requirements
marking Melaka as a UNESCO Heritage Site, the CIQ was to be constructed based on 15th century
architectural designs at a restricted height specified by the authorities.
