            INFERNO Aflame

Burning, The trees all around me The smell of smoke crept through the door,
“Run!” yelled Mum, “to the car!”
The place I once called my home We sped off fast, and were on our way,
Engulfed in flames Mum again had saved the day.
No longer my own “We’re not safe yet” , Dad said
The sky above is orange ablaze Just then we saw flames ahead.
I’m surrounded by walls of flames They were flickering orange, red and black,
                      There’s no escape
The firefighters were holding them back.
I look around for help As the wind picked up, the fire grew,
I can’t see anything, no way out The car was filling up with smoke,
You couldn’t tell the sky was blue.
                   Trying to find my mother
She hasn’t come for me yet Covering us in its dark grey cloak.
Did she leave without me? The firemen said to get out of the way,
                     I’m stumbling around
And that everything would be OK.
I find my mother, her lungs inflamed Tears rolled down Dad’s face, Mum’s too,
I breathe in my last breath of toxic smoke They were watching the firefighters walk straight through.
And fall upon the fallen Oak “Will they ever come out?” I asked my Mum,
I’m with my mother now As she watched the fire, glum.
We’ve escaped Then three firefighters came out, and three had gone in,
I lay with her They saved our lives, with the air so thin!
In our final resting place They got the fire contained,

                                                                       Until only one flame remained.
