                                    Foreword by the Dean

        Bismillahirrahmanirrahim…

        Assalamualaikum W.B.T. and greetings,

        First  of  all,  I  would  like  to  convey  my  heartfelt
        appreciation to the FOOD 2019 Editorial Board for
        their efforts in producing the annual report for the
        Faculty. The publication of this annual report is an
        effort  to  record  the  Faculty’s  achievements
        throughout  the  year  in  a  single  documentation.
        Although certain contents are already displayed in
        the  Faculty’s  official  website,  the  display  is
        temporary  ("transient")  and  often  removed  or
        updated in due course. Putting those contents and
        memories  in  book  form  will  ensure  their  long-
        lastingness,  thus  becoming  a  future  source  for
        reminiscence. Annual publications/reports such as
        this  are  still  being  published  by  several
        entities/activities in UPM such as for the graduation
        ceremony,    research   prospectus   of   the
        faculties/University,  and  activity  highlights  of  the
        year.  Not  only  this  annual  report  contains  the
        research profile of the Faculty's lecturers, but it also
        serves as the parting gift for our final year students
        before  they  graduate  and  leave  the  Faculty.  I
        sincerely hope that they will cherish this as part of their fond memories of the Faculty as much as
        we cherish them and their four-year stay here. I also hope that this annual report could enhance
        the  Faculty’s  standing  and  visibility,  locally  and  internationally,  by  the  dissemination  of  the
        achievements, awards and accolades of the Faculty members.

        The  highlights  of  this  year’s  report  are  of  course  the  second  International  Food  Research
        Conference organised by the Faculty in August 2019 which was attended by over 200 local and
        international  participants,  and  the  Malaysia’s  Research  Star  Award  (Crème  Journal  Award)
        received  by  the  International  Food  Research  Journal  from  the  Malaysian  Ministry  of  Higher
        Education for excellence in scientific journal management of the Faculty. All these and many more
        are carefully presented herein for your pleasant perusal.

        Finally, I must again applaud the initiative taken by the Students’ Union of the Faculty (FOSTECH)
        and its Advisor to re-publish this annual report after several years of unfortunate absence.

        With that, I wish you all a happy reading!
