WELCOME
Dear Friends,
The Governor John Engler Center for Charter Schools has a strong tradition of providing
educational choices to Michigan families. With the belief that every child should have access
to a quality education that best serves their needs, Central Michigan University authorizes 62
charter public schools throughout the state. These schools are ensuring students have doors
opened to them with new possibilities of what an education can mean to their future.
The Center takes pride in playing an essential role in providing these diverse education
options to more than 30,000 students in Michigan. We continue to have an innovative outlook
on developing concepts, systems and tools to keep schools on the pathway to delivering
superior educational programs. In our mission to transform public education, the Center is
continuously looking at new ways to improve. This served as our motivation to go through
the accreditation process with AdvancED in 2016. We were honored to receive accreditation
from this prestigious organization and know that what we learned about ourselves as an
authorizer will allow us to keep working toward our mission.
The impact the Center and CMU-authorized charter public schools are having on education is
truly the result of our dedicated staff, board members and the numerous individuals serving
our schools. It is their commitment to quality educational choices that positions each student
for success in college, work and life.
The Center is proud to be setting the standard in supporting choice, demonstrating excellence
and driving innovation. As we reflect on the past year’s accomplishments, we move forward
with a continued commitment to transform public education.
Sincerely,
Cindy Schumacher
