I want to first and foremost thank God Almighty for His favor upon me and my family
during the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) journey. He opened the doors of clinical
opportunity in oncology for me at Fraser Valley Cancer Centre (FVCC) as I began my education
in the virtual classroom at TWU. It is a pleasure to thank the many people who made this project
and thesis possible.
The thesis advisory committee set the stage for excellence and inspired my passion to
reach the goal. I offer my sincere gratitude to Dr. Reimer-Kirkham for her enthusiasm,
encouragement and affirmation. I appreciate your kind and prompt response to my frequent e-
mails and phone calls. Thank-you to Dr. Reimer-Kirkham and Dr. Kohr for your much valuable
guidance throughout the process! My novice skills in survey design were strengthened by the
expert consultations with Dr. Sawatzky; thank-you for the support.
The patients whom I serve have been a source of motivation for the research topic. The
project is the result of the ongoing encouragement by my nurse leader, Joy Bunsko, which she
kindly referred to as “cheerleading”. I also appreciate the initial directions provided by Kirpal
Kohli and Amanda Bolderston from FVCC; Patti Devion and Ramaseshan Ramani from the
Abbottsford Cancer Centre. Thank-you to the research librarians Duncan Dixon, Pamela Dent
and Lee Ann Bryant who provided their valuable support for the project. I appreciate the
feedback provided by experts Anne Hughes, Amanda Bolderston, Maureen McQuestion and
Stephanie Chadwick during the consensus-building process. I want to thank the Fraser Valley
Radiation Therapy Research and Innovation Fund Committee for their financial support and my
colleagues for their helpful guidance during the survey pilot. I also wish to acknowledge the
