Working: When atmospheric
pressure increases the Mercury level in
the glass tube increases and when the
Atmospheric pressure decreases, the
mercury level also decreases. The
reading is taken with the help of scale in
the glass tube. In this way the barometer
works.
Torricelli Vacuum: The vacuum at the
top of the tube of mercury barometer is
called Torricelli Vacuum.
Note: The height of the mercury
column decreases with increase in
altitudes due to decrease in atmospheric
pressure.
