Though graduated as a painter, István Gy. Molnár started his artistic carreer as
a graphic artist. Classic artists as Paul Klee and Wassily Kandinsky influence his
early work. In the late seventies he started a series of paintings and graphics
with the title‚ “Theme” which was inspired by the German Fachwerkhaus (timber
framed) architecture. Another series of works is based on the Hungarian folk
art motives, he adapted in his abstracted compositions such as “Shepherd”
and “Outlaws”. Gy. Molnár is not a constructivist artist but first of all a colorist
who likes to experiment in different styles. As far as his vision on colors is
concerned, he always stressed the influence of Turkish occupation had on the
colors of Hungarian culture.
