RAPISCAN HE50

Innovative Hand-held Explosive Trace Detection System

          Lightweight, Compact, and User-Friendly Design
Lowest Cost of Operation - Few Consumables, Minimal Maintenance
High Sensitivity and Low False Alarm Rate
          High Throughput

The Rapiscan HE50 oers users the most lightweight and ergonomically
designed hand-held trace explosives detector on the market today. And
with proven Ion Mobility Spectrometry (IMS) technology and its patent-
pending design and operational innovations, the HE50 is superior to other
          commercially available portable IMS-based detectors.
Operational Flexibility with Advanced Sampling Technology
The Rapiscan HE50 detects explosive trace in both particulate and vapor
form from the ambient environment or any surface that may have absorbed
explosive residues. In addition to traditional swipe sampling collection
methodology, the HE50 makes possible use of a touch-free sampling method
for situations where physical contact with the subject is inappropriate or
risky. Neither damaging an interrogated surface nor requiring time to insert
a sample into a heating unit, the HE50’s inhalation method of operation
provides real-time analysis for fast, reliable and specific identification of
explosives. HE50 analyzing sample trap after swipe
Detects Broad Range of Explosives – Highly Sensitive and Selective method collection.
The Rapiscan HE50 detects low picogram levels of a broad range of common
commercial and homemade explosive materials, including nitrate-based,
plastic explosives, peroxides, precursors and taggant types. Capable of
detecting, displaying, and capturing all threat results—even when multiple
explosive materials are found during the same screening instance—the
HE50 also has a low false alarm rate. With the HE50, increased operational
inspection performance is possible and screening personnel are able to
focus on investigation of valid alarms, reliably identify a potential threat, and
document the threat analysis for evidentiary reporting.
          Reduced Total Cost of Ownership
Designed to minimize operating costs, the HE50 eliminates the majority of
consumables and preventive maintenance requirements, typical of other
vendor models. No grids, membranes, drying agents or calibration traps
are required. It only uses a low cost dopant with an extended shelf life and, Scanning subject using non-contact,
optionally, sample traps for use with the swipe sampling method. inhalation sampling.
          High Throughput
Features including the shortest start-up time, a fully automatic continuous
self-calibration feature, and continuous sampling mode of operation all make Applications
the HE50 ideal for security situations where both high processing rates and
detection eectiveness are needed. Critical Infrastructure
          Easy-to-Operate Customs and Border Protection
Ready to use in less than 10 minutes, with an automated start-up process, Defense
an intuitive operating interface and 3-button control, plus no standard daily
preparation, cleaning or maintenance steps, the HE50 nearly eliminates the Event Security
need for operators to deal with complex tasks and procedures. Alarms can Law Enforcement
be configured with audible and/or visual detection indicators. With a large Ports
screen LCD protected by impact-resistant glass, the HE50 can be used in
all light conditions and is resistant to the scratches, drops, and bumps of
          everyday use.
          Exempt from US NRC Requirements
The HE50 uses a unique ionization source with US Nuclear Regulatory
Commission (NRC) Exempt Distribution status that has no end-user radiation
licensing requirements for use within the United States. International
operators should check with their nuclear regulatory agency for local
          requirements.
