1) The words ‘a’ and ‘an’ are used to refer to singular countable nouns.
“a” 或 “an” 用于指可数的单数名词。
a) ‘an’ is used with a noun that begins with a vowel sound ( a, e, i,
o, u ).

“an” 用于以元音 ( a, e, i, o, u ) 为开头的名词。
e.g. an apple an elf an iron an orange an umbrella

b) ‘a’ is used with a noun that begins with a consonant sound.
“a” 用于以辅音为开头的名词。
e.g. a doll a pen a blackboard a bicycle

2) ‘the’ is used to refer to:
“the” 用于指：
a) a particular noun
特定的名词
e.g. The orange is sour.

b) a noun which is mentioned earlier
之前所提及的同一个名词
e.g. I have a bag. The bag is blue.
