 WELCOME

A letter from our dean, Dr. Marcia Tate Arunga

 February 2, 2021

 Dear Evergreen State College, Tacoma ? Sankofa Learning community;

We welcome you to the fifth week of Winter quarter 2021! There are two things
that create awareness in this week: Black History month begins and the 5th
Week warning arrives. Here is more information about both.

February is Black History Month and we at Evergreen have planned a
wonderful program for you, your family and friends. Please be sure to join in
our Lyceum zoom throughout this month on Fridays at noon. We will discuss
contemporary matters of interest to the African American experience. This
programming is designed to educate all Americans and is a great way to share
new insights about this unique culture.

Every 5th week of the quarter, the Evergreen Tacoma faculty come together to
deliberate on the academic progress of the students in our learning
community, and those who may not be completing their academic work within
the time and quality expected. The Dean will typically send a note of concern
to students who find themselves on what we refer to as, the 5th week warning
list. We sincerely hope that you will not be on this list! Remember to take time
You are invited one and all to watch Dr. Gilda Sheppard's documentary film
to complete your assignments by the 5th week to avoid this unpleasant
experience. Submitting assignments in a timely manner is a key to your SINCE I BEEN DOWN
