                                                              Health programs provide students with everything from advise-
                                                              ment and enrollment to job placement.




                                                                Attention New Students  All  Allied  Health  students  must  meet
                                                                with  the  Admissions  Coordinator  or  Program  Administrator  for
                                                                program approval before registering for their first class.





          MEDICAl AssIsTING  CERTIfICATE PROGRAM

          Career Overview
          Medical Assisting is one of the fastest-growing professions in the
          U.S.
          Medical Assistants are multi-skilled health professionals specifically
          educated to work in ambulatory settings performing administrative                                            AllIED hEAlTh
          and clinical duties. The practice of medical assisting directly influ-
          ences the public’s health and well-being, and requires mastery of a
          complex body of knowledge and specialized skills requiring both
          formal education and practical experience that serve as standards
          for entry into the profession.

          Duties vary from office to office depending on location, size and
          specialty.
          Administrative duties may include:
          •  Updating and filing patient medical records
          •  Coding and completing insurance forms
          •  Arranging hospital admissions and laboratory services
          •  Handling correspondence, billing and bookkeeping

          Clinical duties vary by state and may include:       Preparing and administering medications as directed by a physi-
          •  Recording medical histories                       cian

          •  Explaining  treatment  procedures  and  preparing  patients  for  Drawing blood

           examination                                         Performing electrocardiograms
                                                              •
          • Assisting the physician during the exam            Removing sutures and changing dressings
          • Collecting and preparing laboratory specimens and performing
