ABSTRACT

Five species of bamboo were selected to test their physical and
mechanical properties as the main species in the project. The species were

Pai hok (Dendrocalamus hamiltonii Nees et Arn. Ex Munro) Pai pa (Bambusa
bambos (L) Voss ) Pai ruak yai (Thyrsostachys oliveri Gamble), Pai ruak lek
(Thyrsostachys siamensis Gamble) and Pai lam ma lok (Dendrocalamus

longispathus Kurz) harvested from Maehongson and Kanjanaburee provinces.
The highest shrinkage and fiber saturation point are found in B. bambos. Also
the highest static bending value are found in B. bambos and followed by
T. siamensis, T. oliveri, D. longispathus and D. hamiltonii, respectively.

Also the mechanical properties values of all five bamboo species are
same level when compared to five bamboo species undertake the passing
research and development project and some hardwoods such as Dipterocarps.

They are suitable for housing components due to their culm form and the
bending properties as compared to other building materials such as woods.
