3 600 visitors attended a book fair on the
first day. On the second day, the number
of visitors increased by 70% compared to
the first day. How many visitors attended
the event on the second day?
Simplify the information.
Solution
Day Number of visitors Percentage of visitors
First 600 100%
increased by 70%
Second 100% + 70% = 170%
compared to the first day
Calculate the number of visitors on the second day.
The total number of visitors on the second day is
170% of 600 visitors.
170% of 600 visitors = 4
170 6
170% of 600 visitors = × 600 visitors 1 7 0 visitors
100 × 6
1 1 0 2 0 visitors
= 1 020 visitors
Visitors on the second day:
Check the 70
answer. 600 visitors + (70% × 600 visitors) = 600 visitors + ( 100 × 600 visitors)
= 600 visitors + 420 visitors
= 1 020 visitors
170% of 600 visitors = 1 020 visitors
The number of visitors on the second day is 1 020.
On the third day, the number of visitors increased
by 30% compared to the second day. Calculate the
total number of visitors on the third day.
