A Brief History of Exmoor

1904 Olympic gold and silver medals of Exmoor

Tennis began in 1910, and utilizing grass
courts, the club hosted many important
tournaments, including an exhibition in
the 1930s that included Bobby Riggs,
Wimbledon champion in 1939 who
achieved further fame in the Battle of
the Sexes match, which he lost against
Billie Jean King in 1973. Since the early
Exmoor’s first Golf Shop was the Francis Stupey Cabin, a pioneer home built on the grounds in 1847,
