PAST WINNER HIGHLIGHTS
NOTABLES OF GOLF HISTORY
Since its founding in 1899, the Western
Amateur has tested the legends of the
game and served as a proving ground for
the future stars of golf. Twenty-three
past Western Amateur champions — Ryan Moore Justin Leonard
including icons like Jack Nicklaus, Tiger (2004) (1992–93)
Woods and Phil Mickelson — have won
major championships.
Since the Western Amateur adopted
the format featuring 16 match play
qualifiers in 1956, 32 players advancing
to the Sweet Sixteen have won 79
major professional championships.
