Whilst tests are useful indicators of a child’s progress, they also give information on
learning needs. The results of tests are used diagnostically to indicate future teaching
needs and to identify those children who may have additional educational needs.

At the end of Key Stage 2 Year 6 children are assessed by their teacher in the core
subjects of the National Curriculum – English, Mathematics and Science as well as
Welsh. Parents are notified of the results for their child and for the school as a whole
in comparison to Cardiff and Wales.

At the end of the Foundation Phase Year 2 children are assessed by their teacher in
the core areas of Language, Literacy and Communication, Mathematical Development
and Personal and Social Development. Parents are notified of the results for their child
and for the school as a whole as well as in comparison with Cardiff and Wales.

Targets for attainment are set annually with the School’s Challenge Adviser from the
local consortium and the Governing Body.

Parents are invited to discuss their child’s progress at two Parents’ Evenings in the year
and will receive a comprehensive written report at the end of each academic year.

            PERSONAL AND SOCIAL EDUCATION (PSE)

Since 2003 PSE has been a statutory part of the curriculum. It encompasses all that
we as a school do to promote the personal and social development of the children.
Planned learning experiences take place in the classroom in activities such as Circle
Time when children are encouraged to explore and discuss their feelings and attitudes

towards a wide range of issues. It is also a feature of the general ethos and community
life of our school which aims to encourage respect and understanding for other people
            and the environment.

            PEER SUPPORT

Children are encouraged to care for and support
each other from an early age. This may be working
together in class or playing cooperatively on the
playground. As the children mature they take on
other responsibilities. Year 6 children help with
lunches in the dinner hall. Our Head Girl and Boy,
and their deputies, meet regularly with the senior

leadership team to discuss school life and plan for the future.

Through our Restorative Approaches programme, Year 5 and 6 children are trained to
carry out restorative conversations with both Foundation Phase and Key Stage 2
