AD. It is a three storied
structure with sixty rooms.
The temple is 50 metres
tall and covers the area of
4,860 sq. feet. Stones and
marbles are used in the
construction. All the sixty
rooms of the temple are
decorated with the flag of Nepal, coloured glass and paintings
with beautiful lattice windows and turrets.
Janakpur was the capital of ancient Mithila kingdom. King
Janak, the most famous of the era had a daughter Janaki also
known as Sita who later married Ram, the king of Ayodhya.
The engagement of Ram and Sita had occurred in a nearby
temple after Ram broke the giant bow (shiva-Dhanus) that king
Janak used to worship. Hindus worship Ram and Sita as God
and Goddess. So Janakpur is a holy city and Janaki Temple is a
pilgrimage for Hindu devotees.
Every year, thousands
of pilgrims visit Janaki
Temple. The pilgrims
are from Nepal, India,
Sri Lanka and a few from
