Meet the poet

Died: August 7, 1941, Calcutta
Rabindranath Tagore was a Bengali poet,
novelist and educator. Author of Gitanjali, he
became the first non-European to win the
Nobel Prize in Literature in 1913. He was the
one who wrote the national anthems of India
and Bangladesh. He was highly influential
in introducing the best of Indian culture to
the West and vice versa, and he is generally
regarded as the outstanding creative artist of Rabindranath Tagore
modern India.
