As they grew up, their father wanted to share his property
equally. However Tom did not agree. He said that the more
intelligent of the two sons should get a bigger share. Sam agreed.
The father decided to organize a competition between the two.
He ordered both of his sons to walk as long as they could and
return home before the sunset. “Whoever covers the longer
distance and returns before the sunset would be given a bigger
share,” the father declared. He didn’t let them carry any watch.
Both started the walk. It was a sunny day. Sam walked slowly
and steadily. But Tom started to run instantly.
When it was mid-noon Sam
decided to return. However,
Tom with his greed to earn more
wealth kept going. He covered a
long distance. When he realized
he had to return, it was almost
evening. Sam got home before
the sunset but Tom couldn’t even
reach half the way. He lost the race and the bigger share of
wealth because of greed.
