studies continue to find the importance of that relationship, indicate
that a core value, ethic, and essential behavior guide nursing’s cov-
enant and commitment to the public. While research of a quantitative
nature continues to be needed, the lack of quantitative studies should
not undermine the ethical, philosophical value commitment to sustain
an authentic trusting-caring relationship with another; the caring rela-
tionship is foundational to any professional practice. Without attend-
ing to this core Caritas Process, nursing would cease to be a profession.
