            The words a and an are called indefinite articles.

            A is used for words which begin with a consonant sound.
            Examples: • a building        • a dragon      • a giant basket


            An is used for words which begin with a vowel sound or a silent 'h',
            Examples: • an architect        • an earthquake        • an hour


            We do not put a or an before a plural noun because a and an
            means one.


            Exceptions:We do not use an before a word that begins with a vowel
                         that makes a 'y' sound. We use a instead.

                         Example: • a unicorn        • a university    • a used car


            Read the sentences.
