• Dead - due to gangrene following vascular ischemia or trauma or

frostbite.

• Dangerous - limb is having serious malignant tumor or lethal infection

as gas gangrene.

• Damn nuisance - limb is worse than no limb at all because of pain, gross

deformity, frequent sepsis or severe loss of function
