Feet
▪ The forefoot is involved in 90% of patients
- hallux valgus, with hammering of the lesser toes.
▪ The midfoot is not usually symptomatically involved
▪ The hindfoot - progressive valgus deformity due to
involvement of the subtalar or talo-navicular joint or
both. This is followed by loss of the medial longitudinal
arch and flatfoot deformity with forefoot pronation.
▪ There is a higher rate of tibialis posterior dysfunction,
which may be due to direct tendon invasion or strain
from a valgus hindfoot.
