3. Axillary thoracotomy

• 6-cm curvilinear incision is made at the base of the
axillary hairline from the anterior margin of the

latissimus dorsi to the posterior margin of the

pectoralis major. These muscles are retracted, and the
third intercostal space is identified

4. Muscle-sparing thoracotomy

• incision from the tip of the scapula posteriorly and
inferiorly, extending it forward for about 10 cm
