• Instruct the patient to take a deep breath in preparation

• Ask the patient to place his lips tightly around the mouthpiece of the Peak Flow Meter to

ensure the air blows directly into the Peak Flow Meter.

• Instruct the patient to exhale loudly through the Peak Flow Meter. This aims to get the

maximum airflow rate

• The normal reading is 10L/kg

• If the procedure is repeated more than once, get the maximum reading while recording it

• Example: First Blow: 150; second exhalation: 180; third exhalation: 175. So, 180 is the

recorded reading.
