1.2 Reading for main idea

Main idea คือ ใจความสำคัญหรือใจความหลักของเรื่อง ซึ่งเปนสวนสำคัญที่สุดของเรื่อง ซึ่ง

เปนสวนที่ครอบคลุมและควบคุมเรื่องนั้น ๆ กลาวคือ ในแตละยอหนาตองมี main idea เพียงอัน

เดียว และถาเมื่อขาด main idea ไปแลว จะทำใหไมเกิดเนื้อเรื่องตาง ๆ ขึ้น หรือทำใหไมทราบ

จุดประสงคเรื่องนั้น ๆ แลวทำใหเกิดความเขาใจคลาดเคลื่อนได

1) Stated main idea

Stated main idea คือหลักใหญใจความที่สำคัญที่สุดของเรื่อง ซึ่งผูเขียนบอกมาตรง

ๆ สามารถครอบคลุมเนื้อหาของเรื่องไดทั้งหมด จะตองตั้ง main idea ไวในการเขียน และบรรยายหรื

อธิบายโดยยึด main idea เปนหลัก สวนที่ขยายหรอบรรยายใหรายละเอียดตอจาก main idea คือ

supporting detail โดยปกติ ในเนื้อความหนึ่งๆ เรามักจะพบ stated main idea ไดในตอนตน ตอนกลาง

Bicycles are very popular today in many countries. Many people use bicycles

for exercise. But exercise is only one of the reasons why bicycles are popular.

Another reason is money. Bicycles are not expensive to buy. They do not need gas

to make them go. They also are easy and cheap to fix. In cities, many people like

bicycles better than cars. With a bicycle, they never have to wait in traffic. They also

do not have to find a place to park. And finally, bicycles do not cause any pollution!
