          ALUMNA SHOWS SUCCESS IN ENTREPRENEURSHIP

After graduation from Catholic Memorial in 2017, Kat worked at Baird as a summer intern in private asset
Kathryn Christian took the first semester of life management and is finding that this is where her true passion
at Marquette University to acclimate herself and lies, along with a strong focus on service in her life.
took a step back to ask herself what she wanted
to do long-term. She scored an interview with “Before coming to CMH, I always had a sense of
the Student-Run Business Program. service, but the fact that we focused on it and made it
The interviewers asked if she would be interested a priority day-to-day solidified that for me,” she said.
in founding her own company within a portfolio.
Kat founded 1881 Event Productions; an event “I like to sign up for volunteer opportunities at Baird and on
planning company that helps plan the Milwaukee campus, and I was humbled on the other side of volunteer work
Marathon. “I jumped at the opportunity because when I managed marathon volunteers who truly wanted to help.”
not many 18-year-olds get to help plan an entire
           marathon,” she said.
Kat worked to recruit 600 volunteers for the
marathon and secured sponsorships from local
companies, including the Milwaukee Bucks. This
required her to reach out to top executives in the
Milwaukee and surrounding areas and she found
she was a natural at this type of communication.

Her work with 1881 Event Productions led her to
Blue & Gold Ventures (B&G), a separate entity
from Marquette, but hires Marquette students to
work within its subsidiary companies or to start
their own companies. “1881 Event Productions
was the first to become a part of B&G and to
receive startup capital. I was recently elected to Kat making blankets
be the President of Blue & Gold Ventures to help for Crusader Day of
run and work with the operations of both the Service with Megan
holding company and its subsidiaries,” Kat said. Maher ’17 in 2016.
