Personal Dignity Kits Packing Event
On December 30 we gathered together for one worship service at 10, then packed 1,000 personal
dignity (hygiene) kits for distribution by Midwest Mission. Thanks to all who came, and for Jean
Huddleston for cooking the meal we shared afterwards!

One Winter Night
Pastor Marc will be sleeping on the street again to support C-U@Home’s ministry to those without
an address. If you would like to join Pastor Marc on the street let him know and he will help you get
registered. If you would like to support him financially, please make your check payable to
C-U@Home and put One Winter Night 2019 – Savoy UMC on the memo line. Thank you in advance
for your support.
A few weeks ago, the Mission Committee asked for Mystery Readers at
Unity West for first graders. I signed up to read. In a few days, I
received an email from the teacher with dates and explaining what we
were to do: Bring a book of my choice! I had no idea what type of
st
st
books 1 graders were reading. I haven’t read to 1 graders in several
years. Rebeccah A. came to my rescue – thank you, Rebeccah. I
couldn’t decide which one. I mentioned at Bible Study I was struggling
with making a decision on the right book. The one I wanted to read
was about helping others; however, the last few pages were about
God, faith, church. My concern was could I read this in a school? Pastor Marc suggested I pray
about it which I did, a lot. I didn’t read the book about helping. God answered my prayers, maybe
not the way I wanted but I felt at peace with the decision.
After it was determined I was not someone’s Grandmother; we realized I attended the same church,
Savoy United Methodist Church, with at least one and maybe two who were in the class.
They were an awesome class (as was the teacher). If you ever have an opportunity I highly
recommend going to school as a Mystery Reader. The Unity West Elementary School Partnership is
a great idea.
Just as a side note, I now know how many have lost teeth and who has loose teeth ready to fall out!
