Ikamvelihle Rehabilitation Centre
This project was initiated in February 2002
by the concerned community members and
HIV/AIDS infected and affected groups. It was
registered as an NPO in 2003, aimed at promoting
comprehensive care and support services to the
HIV/AIDS infected and affected people, TB patients,
Orphans and Other Vulnerable Children (OVC),
Child Headed House Holds (CHHHs) and needy
families, including older persons.
The high infection rate of HIV & AIDS resulted
in increased number’ of orphans and poverty
in the community. This has led to the need to
establish home-based care. The project started
with only one programme, Home Based Care,
by ten members who were promoting friendly
visits to HIV & AIDS infected bed-ridden people
through home visits and the identification
and needs-assessments of orphans and other
vulnerable children (OVC). Case referrals to the
relevant Departments and Institutions for further
assistance-such as The Department of Home
Affairs, The Department of Social Development,
The Department of Health and SAPS were made.
Currently, the NPO has developed into five
Programmes, namely:
• the Home Based Care Programme,
