HIGH IMMERSIVE PROGRAM

The Highly Immersive Programme (HIP) is implemented to empower schools, by schools

and for schools (Tampin, 2016). It is a programme that will improve the English proficiency

mainly among students through increased exposure to English language. It is introduced by

MoE in 2016 with the aim to create a highly immersive, language-rich environment that

promotes the use of English in all schools. Through the HIP, students are exposed to the English

language through a variety of activities within and beyond the classroom.

It is a programme under the MBMMBI (Upholding the Malay Language and Strengthening

Command of English) policy that will enhance pupils’ proficiency in English through increased

exposure to the language in schools.

This key initiative is critical in preparing Malaysian students to live and work

productively in a globalised world where the lingua franca is English. The involvement of the

school administrators, teachers, staff, and the community as part of the HIP itself is timely

and their immense support in making this a reality is highly encouraged and appreciated.
