English for Academic Studies
This is an ETC qualification. It is designed to prepare you for external exams, for example IELTS or
Cambridge. A successful IELTS or Cambridge exam will assist you in gaining entrance to a range of
universities and polytechnics in New Zealand and overseas. Each level involves 10 weeks of study.
Students can start any Monday with a flexible number of weeks for enrolment.
New Zealand Certificate in English Language
This is a nationally recognised qualification in New Zealand. Level 3 and 4 (Academic) are accepted by
polytechnics and some universities within New Zealand. All assessments are internal and no external
exams are required. Each level involves 20 weeks of study. Students usually enrol for 20 weeks with set
start dates.
Programmes
For all student enrolments, ETC can assess students’ English ability and make recommendations
regarding the best level and programme to enrol in.
