 PROGRAM ABBREVIATIONS AND AWARDS
 I.   Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.)  GENERAL EDUCATION CORE COMPETENCIES
    The Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree is designed for students who wish
    to prepare for a career and at the same time enjoy the rewards of college general   The following competencies are the expected outcomes for graduates of degree programs
    education. These programs may vary in length from 60 to 76 semester credit hours.     at Southern Union State Community College.
    Associate in Applied Science degrees are offered in the following programs:
    MST    Business Management and Supervision  COMMUNICATION:  Students will demonstrate the ability to organize  thoughs
 CHD  Child Development  clearly and correctly, orally and in writing.
 CIS  Computer Science
    OAD   Office Management  MATHEMATICS: Students will demonstrate the ability to perform mathematical
            With options in:  Accounting, Medical Coding, or Medical Transcription
 II.  Certificate  skills and apply mathematical principles.
    The Certificate prepares students for employment in specific occupational fields. A
    student who completes the requirements of a specific program of 30 to 60 semester      SCIENCE:  Students will demonstrate an understanding of theoretical concepts  and

 III.  Short Certificate
    The Short Certificate requires no more than 29 semester hours and may be
    completed in one year provided prerequisites are met. Depending on the program,      General Education Short-Term Certificate
    general education courses may not be required. Short Certificates are offered in the
    following programs:  Southern Union State Community College offers a short-term General Education
    MST    Business Management and Supervision  Certificate designed to assist students in developing an academic foundation for

 CIS  Computer Science/ Applications  before degree attainment. The certificate provides an opportunity for students to
