complete the given tasks as a way to practice the concept learned. Therefore, pupils are unable
to communicate in English very well. They tend to mix their words with Malay words. For

example, instead of saying “He jumps over the fence”, they preferred to say “He jumps over

pagar”, where “pagar” is the Malay word for “fence”. They lacked the confidence to
communicate in English as their vocabulary knowledge is low.

Moreover, they also can’t understand and differentiate the preposition of direction such

as IN, ON, UNDER, or BEHIND and also some preposition of time words such SINCE, FOR
and AGO. Most of the teaching aids didn’t teach the pupils to explain preposition with pictures.

Thus, pupils are having problems in understanding the meaning of the prepositions. The

preposition of direction is better to be taught in the form of pictures. Without that, pupils have
to memorize and keep in the mind the definition of each preposition words and they keep on

making mistake again and again. Other problems that need to focus in the research is how to

make the English class more fun and interactive. Pupils actually were bored with the chalk and
talk teaching style. Therefore, there is a need find out several ways of teaching techniques that

can enhance pupils interest in learning prepositions in the classroom.
