                                     Brain Power

1: A man worked at an aquarium. Every day he spent a large part of his time
trying to stop people from tapping on the glass at the shark tank. Finally, fed up
with it, he ccame up with a solution. The solution worked perfectly and the next
day no one tapped on the glass. What was the man’s solution?
2: Two boys were sent by their mothers to sell an equal amount of cupcakes each,
worth 50p per cupcake, at a charity fete.
They were told not to eat the cupcakes they are selling, and that they should sell all
of the cupcakes. At the end of the day, all their cupcakes were sold, yet neither boy
gained nor lost a any money. How was this possible?
3: A carnival stall had this challenge to win double of any stake I cared to place.
7 playing cards (8 through ace) lay face down in a certain order. I have 6 clues on
the order of them. If I can get the order right then I win the bet. I thought it would
be really easy but I was wrong. Can you help me? What is the order?

          1. The “Ace” is two cards away from the “9” card. (1 between)
          2. The “8” card is between the “10” card and the “King”.
          3. The “King” is four cards away from the Ace. (3 between)
          4. The “Jack” is directly right of the “Ace”.
          5. The “Queen” is in the middle.
          6. The “Jack” is somewhere right of the “10” card.
                                                                 Answers on page 44
                                                                 Answers on page 44
                                                                 Answers on page 44
                                      APOLOGY
In a recent edition of this magazine the above puzzle section contained
a riddle poser which made certain references to mental health and the
diff erences between those suff ering with mental health issues and so called
         normal people.
In a world ever more focused on political correctness it is increasingly
diffi cult to make sure that everything is presented without prejudice, and
on refl ection I realise that this item could have been viewed as insensitive.
There was certainly no intention of mocking any person suff ering from
         illness, mental health or otherwise.
I can only apologise that something that was intended to be light-hearted
         caused such concern.
I do receive an incredible amount of material from readers off ering their
jokes, stories and anecdotes and have to admit there are a great many I
could not publish, however, I will endeavour in future to be more careful
in what I do use to avoid causing further off ence.
Additionally I have also decided to rename the above section as it has
been pointed out that the term ‘Brainstorm’ is outdated, with allusions to
         those suff ering from epilepsy.

         Thank you.
                       Chris
