                    Bournemouth In Bloom

Bournemouth is in two big competitions this year. The fi rst is the South and South East in Bloom which
is judged in August and is against 12 other coastal towns. At the same
time local gardens, patios, baskets, tubs etc are also judged and prizes
awarded in October. This year because we won Gold in the South
and South East Competition we have been fortunate enough to be
automatically entered into Britain in Bloom where we are against 72
other towns and resorts and this will be judged in July.
We would like to get the whole of Bournemouth interested in the
competition and hope all will join in.

To this end we have a schools co coordinator who regularly tries to get
the children via their schools involved by making small gardens within the school grounds. Schools are
invited to join and the best three results per school will be shown at the award ceremony in October. Prizes
and certifi cates will of course be won.
We have discovered that the judges go regularly on to our web site to check how much it is used and
how popular it is. They award 25% of the points to enthusiasm of the whole town not just the committee
          members.
The big competition for all is now open and anyone wishing to take part is asked to go on line where the
entry form can easily be completed and they then become entrants and will be judged in August.

“Annuals” mean disappointment once a year.
Your lawn is always slightly bigger than your desire to mow it.
Whichever garden tool you want is always at the back of the shed.
Th e only way to ensure rain, is to give the garden a good soaking.
Weeds grow at precisely the rate you pull them out.
Nothing ever looks like it does on the seed packet.
Th e only way to guarantee some colour all year round is to buy a garden gnome.
However bare the lawn, grass will appear in the cracks between the patio paving stones.
Evergreens go a funny shade of brown in the winter.
