f Union Minister for Sports & Youth Affairs, Kiren Rijiju inaugurated the Khelo India State Centre of
Excellence (KISCE) for Rowing discipline at the Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council Water Sports Academy
at the Nehru Park in the world-famous Dal Lake in Srinagar. This is one of the two KISCEs from Jammu &
Kashmir. The other being the Maulana Azad Stadium for Fencing discipline in Jammu.
f India seamer Bhuvneshwar Kumar has won the ICC Player of the Month award for his superlative show in
the recent limited over series against England in March. Bhuvneshwar became the third successive Indian
recipient of the award since its inception early this year.
f South African Lizelle Lee, who played four ODIs against India where she scored a century and two half-
centuries to move to the top of Women's ODI batting rankings, was named the ICC Women's Player of the
Month for March.
f Max Verstappen (Red Bull – Netherlands) won the Emilia Romagna F1 Grand Prix 2021, in Imola, Italy.
This win is his first victory of the season. The race was the second round of the 2021 Formula One World
Championship.
f Mirabai Chanu set a new World Record in the women's 49kg Clean and Jerk with a massive 119 kg lift at
Asian Weightlifting Championships in Tashkent. The 26-year-old Indian won the bronze medal at the
event. The gold medal went to Hou Zhihui of China who created a new world record in snatch. Asian
Games, held once every 4yrs, is the 2nd largest multi-sport event after Olympics.
f Stefanos Tsitsipas has won his first ATP Masters 1000 series after a flawless performance against Andrey
Rublev in Monte Carlo. The Greek star had lost his previous two finals at this level, with Rafael Nadal
denying him in Toronto and Novak Djokovic beating him in Madrid.
f Tamil Nadu's, Arjun Kalyan became India's 68th Chess Grandmaster when he crossed the 2500 ELO mark
after beating Dragan Kosic in the fifth round of GM Round Robin “Rujna Zore-3” in Serbia. Arjun is coached
by IM Saravanan and Ukrainian GM Aleksandr Goloshchapov and began playing chess at the age of nine
and got his FIDE rating a year later. Viswanathan Anand became the country's first Grandmaster, in 1988.
f Manchester City won the League Cup for a record-equalling fourth time in succession with a deserved
victory over a disappointing Tottenham Hotspur side at Wembley. City's victory equalled Liverpool's
achievement in the early 1980s of winning the competition four years in a row.
f Rafael Nadal beat Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-4, 6-7, 7-5 to win his 12th Barcelona Open title. It was Nadal's
87th career title, and his 61st title on clay. This is the second tournament where Nadal has captured 12 or
more titles. The 13-time Roland Garros champion will return to No. 2 in the FedEx ATP Rankings.
f Kieron Pollard hit six sixes in an over to guide West Indies to a comprehensive four-wicket win against Sri
Lanka in the first game of their threematch T20 series. Pollard joins former India batsman Yuvraj Singh as
the only other player to hit six sixes in an over in T20 cricket, and just the third man to hit six sixes in an
international match, emulating Herschelle Gibbs (South Africa) and Yuvraj Singh (India).
f All India Football Federation confirms Odisha as the venue for the forthcoming Hero Indian Women's
League 2020-21 edition. This is the fifth edition of IWL, the top division women's league in India. The
Odisha government is a strategic partner of the AIFF (All India Football Federation) as it provides the
necessary infrastructure to various men and women age-group teams.
f Star Indian wrestler, Vinesh Phogat has defeated 2017 world champion Vanesa Kaladzinskay of Belarus to
win a gold medal at the XXIV Outstanding Ukrainian Wrestlers and Coaches Memorial tournament, held in
