        f  Noted journalist and author Anil Dharker passed away. He was the founder and director of the Mumbai
           International Literary Festival. He was in his mid-70s, was the editor of several publications including
           Mid-Day and The Independent and played a vital role in opening the Akashwani Auditorium in south
           Mumbai as an art movie theatre.
        f  Lieutenant General, Walter Anthony Gustavo 'WAG' Pinto (Retd), a military hero who led an infantry
           division to a legendary victory in the 1971 India-Pakistan War has passed away at the age of 97
        f   Beloved children's author of US, Beverly Cleary passed away. She was named a Living Legend in 2000 by
           the Library of Congress. In 2003, she was chosen as one of the winners of the National Medal of Arts
        f  Former Reserve Bank of India Deputy Governor, KC Chakrabarty passed away. He was the deputy
           governor of the central bank between 15 June 2009 and 25 April 2014 when he demitted office three
           months before his term was to end. Prior to the stint, he had served as the chairman and managing
           director (CMD) of Punjab National Bank (2007-2009), and CMD of Indian Bank (2005-2007).

        f  Lieutenant General, Walter Anthony Gustavo 'WAG' Pinto (Retd), a military hero who led an infantry
           division to a legendary victory in the 1971 India-Pakistan War has passed away at the age of 97. He led
           the 54 Infantry Division in the Battle of Basantar in the war that gave birth to Bangladesh, leading his
           troops from the front with the motto he coined “bash on regardless”.
        f  Beloved children's author of US, Beverly Cleary passed away. She was named a Living Legend in 2000 by
           the Library of Congress. In 2003, she was chosen as one of the winners of the National Medal of Arts. The
           author whose memories of her Oregon childhood were shared with millions through the likes of Ramona
           and Beezus Quimby and Henry Huggins.
       f  Japanese Physicist Isamu Akasaki, a co-winner of the 2014 Nobel Prize in Physics, has passed away.
           Akasaki, a professor at the university, had been recognized for the invention which has contributed to
           bright and energy-saving white light sources, widely known as LED lamps.
       f  Founder member of the Samajwadi Party and former UP minister Bhagwati Singh passed away. He was
           89-year-old. The last rites of Singh will not be done as he had pledged to donate his body to the King
           George Medical University.
       f  Veteran film and TV actress Shashikala Om Prakash Saigal passed away. She was more popularly known
           by her first name, Shashikala has famously appeared as various supporting characters in over 100 films.

       f  Malayalam screenwriter, filmmaker, dramatist and actor, P. Balachandran has passed away. He is best
           known for the play Paavam Usman for which he won the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award and Kerala
           Professional Nataka Award in the year 1989.
