5 More on the Circle

                                         In  this  chapter  we  shall  be

                                         looking  at  more  features

                                         relating to the circle. First a
                                         few more definitions. In the

                                         diagram on the left you can
                                         see  a  circle  with  several

                                         lines.


                                         1.  A  chord  is  a  line  that
                touches  the  circumference  in  two  places,  but

                does not pass through the centre.

             2. A sector is an area within the circle as shown in
                purple.

             3. A  segment  is  an  area  of  a  circle  that  lies

                between  a  chord  and  the  circumference  as
                shown in yellow.

                                 4. A  tangent  is  an  external  line
                                 that touches the circumference at

                                 one place.
