Improving Piffen

mounted a frame at the rear pulpit.
         • A 12V to 220V inverter (Victron Phoenix 12-180) for radio, laptops,
charging a shaver etc; capacity 180W.
         • Extra lights (adjustable LEDs) above the galley and above the saloon ta-
ble. In nearly all existing lights I changed the bulbs for LEDs.

         • A tricolor LED in the mast top unit and a white LED in the top unit as an
anchor light – though instead of the latter people advise hanging a LED
or oil lamp at a low level so as to be more easily visible at shorter dis-
            tances.

After a second repair to the diesel heating control system I replaced the
clock thermostat monitor unit for a simple on/off thermostat switch – and
since then it has worked well.

Enough for now. I know Piffen is ready and able to do much farther cruising
and voyaging than what Christine and I intend to do in the near future, but
we do make use of all improvements. Together with our trust in the quality
and sturdiness of the basics of this lovely boat they help us to feel safe and
comfortable, and to enjoy our travels and
         day sailing! Renger Afman

                            Collywobbles or Gollywobbler

A Gollywobbler is the large square staysail hoisted between the
masts of a schooner in a reaching wind to increase its speed.
Perhaps the effect led to the current saying of “it gives me the
              collywobbles” meaning to be afraid
