Greeting from Geoffrey Jayson
Firstly, I would like to thank the Jaffa Institute for this honour and feel
quite overwhelmed. I first met David Portowicz some 30 years ago
when, needless to say, he was helping an Israeli child and her family
who were staying in England for her to have major medical treatment.
I was instantly drawn to the Jaffa Institute for which he, together
with his remarkable team, works so tirelessly to support seriously
disadvantaged families and particularly children. I am grateful to have
been able to support such a brilliant organisation.
Life is a lottery. If only there could be a winning ticket for everyone. It
is heart-breaking that so many Israeli families and children are hungry,
feel unsafe, are deeply unhappy, traumatised and need help.
The Jaffa Institute, under David’s leadership, is ‘at the sharp end’,
doing everything possible to care for them, strengthen their emotional
and mental wellbeing and turn their lives around so that they become
strong contributors to Israeli society.
This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Institute’s establishment.
I send my congratulations to David and his team and may the Institute
continue with its wonderful work for many years to come.
GJ
