were heading, emphasising that
we would have to obey the traffic
lights so we all knew from the
start that the run was likely to get
split up.
Our first port of call was Cardiff
City’s football ground via the city
centre, I had found out that my
bike didn’t like slow speeds and
even at at 10am it was busy. All
the junctions had marshals to
show us the way, so once the last
riders came in it was time for us to
head for the next location which
was the Barrage at Penarth. It was
much the same again but this time
it was down a dual carriageway

for a good bit of the trip and only
slow getting into the car park. The
last leg and the longest was from
the Barrage, a lap around Roath
Park and to the final meeting
place, the Roald Dahl Plass in the
bay itself. This was the worst part
for me because my throttle started
to stick on; at first a quick flick of
the throttle was all it needed but
it got progressively worse. In the
end I had to stop by Queen Street
station and take out and clean the
slide, which did the trick and the
bike ran great to the finish. Once
there, it was my turn to buy Mal
and daughter Jasmine a drink in
the Millennium centre and dry off
before my trip home.
Most of the trip home was dry
until the heavens opened again
during the last mile and I noticed
that the water from my top was
running onto my air filter. I’m
going to make a cover now to
stop it happening again as it can
be a little unnerving when the
throttle sticks on when you’re not
expecting it… Dave Lowes tells me
that the Cardiff ride raised close
to £24,000 and is placed 42nd out
of over 700 rides worldwide. He
would also like to thank everyone
who braved the rain to take part
and to all the marshals who kept
the ride on track. p
