           The water cycle The Dutch artist M. C. Escher was inspired by optical  illusions. This picture shows a circuit of water that  seems to flow impossibly uphill before tumbling down to start its journey all over again. If you look closely, you can see that the technique used  is the same as that in the Penrose triangle, below.
