                                         . The Shrine of Charlemagne
                                         The Emperor Charlemagne was canonized
                                         as a saint in 1165 and in 1215 his remains
                                         were placed in this gold and silver casket by
                                         Friedrich II. It is on display in the presbytery.














                                      . Pala d’Oro
                               The front of the main altar is
                               adorned with valuable gold
                                 sheets from around 1020,
                                  funded by Heinrich II.








                              Proserpina’s Sarcophagus
                              This sarcophagus, in the Schatzkammer (treasury), is a
                              beautiful example of early 3rd-century Roman sculpture.
                              It is thought that the body of Charlemagne rested in this
                              coffin until he was canonized.
                          Ambo
                          The ambo, a pulpit fashioned from gold-plated
                          copper and inlaid with precious stones and
                          ivories, was donated by Heinrich II in 1014.
